Interview
- Plant & Piping Design
- Y. H.
Why did you choose RISE?
I majored in “structural design” when I was a student. I thought “I want a job related to infrastructure and natural energy” and not just work at a company doing general building design.
While looking for a job, I found a company that contributes to the society in a wide range of areas in Plant Engineering, including structural design and piping design.
That company was RISE.
I also had a good impression of RISE because the company has a well-balanced business development in terms of management strategy (stability in abundance of business partners).
In the end, I decided to join the company because of 3 reasons; I can actively challenge a new field, I can be trusted with a project even if I’m not very good at it, and the company has a pleasant atmosphere.
What did you like about the company after joining?
First of all, I like how I could acquire a wide range of knowledge.
Since our company has 4 pillars (architectural, seismic design, plant and piping), our designs are diverse and wide-ranging. Aside from designing new buildings, we also perform seismic diagnosis on existing buildings and propose the optimal reinforcement plan for the clients. I think that experiencing various work relating to the 4 pillars mentioned above, simultaneously, I will be a designer who can think and analyze from all angles.
Next, I also found it fascinating that we can complete a single design process all on our own.
Especially when designing plants and the like, the company provides us with an environment that allows for a complete complex design process starting from the piping on top of the structure, to the structural frame itself, down to the foundation. Contrary to designing a part of the building, a complete process gives us a broader perspective and an active role as the designer.
Lastly, each of us can actually take action on our own.
For example, in the recent years, there are academic activities such as giving presentations for the Architectural Institute of Japan as information dissemination, holding seminars inside and outside the company, and deliver technical lectures for other companies.
What is your advice to students/applicants?
As described above, RISE has that environment that can enhance the employees’ market value and a platform where employees can improve themselves. But of course, to reach something, you have to take action for yourself. If you take one step, you will definitely get support from seniors you can trust.
My advice to you all is to first, challenge everything and broaden your career path.
I think structural design is a job that saves human life and that’s what makes it cool. The stage continues to the world. I hope we could find a safe, stable and economical design for a building while working with you.
