Why did you choose RISE?

Prior to my employment at RISE, I was working at an engineering firm whose civil engineering department focused mainly on administrative tasks and drawings. After parting from that company, I knew I had to find another firm that is more inclined to design.
I chose RISE because I saw it as a company that can further hone my skills, not only in civil engineering but in other disciplines as well. The company’s openness to allowing an individual to engage in various engineering tasks also appealed to me—I believe it’s always good to be able to try something different.

What is worth doing for you here?

For me, engineering in general is of great worth in society. It is fascinating how concepts in mathematics and sciences can be used to create new things and improve the way we live.
With my current engineering job at RISE, it is rewarding to think that what we work on within the company—be it piping or structural design—will materialize somewhere, and will make a difference.

What do you struggle the most?

My main struggle is with language. When I entered RISE, my Japanese capability was so low I could not get a point across. Now, I believe my Japanese has improved, but still needs a lot of work.
I also struggle with unfamiliar engineering tasks. Since our job at RISE may require exploring different fields, having to work on new concepts can be daunting. In my case, tasks related to piping are particularly difficult to grasp at first. In the future, I would probably be able to deal with piping jobs more confidently, but for now, I still need a lot of learning to do.
